First official details of the new 2021 Mercedes S-Class W223

Mercedes-Benz showed the first official teaser for the new S-Class W223 today. It will be built according to the Industry 4.0 standard in the new Factory 56 in Sindelfingen. This state-of-the-art production facility relies on innovative technologies and processes in vehicle production. The EQS, which should become the fully electric member of the next S-Class family, will also be produced there later.

Factory 56 will be officially opened in September 2020. The new S-Class should be presented in autumn 2020. The official presentation is planned for September 2020 with estimated first deliveries in November 2020.

Among other things, the new S-Class reaches a completely new level in terms of artificial intelligence and electrification. It is expected that every engine will be equipped with at least a 48 volt ISG with 20-22 HP with EQ Boost and the recuperation as well as plug-in hybrids with a range of 100 km using CCS charging.

The following basic motors will be used (with electrification components):

  • M254 4-cylinder petrol engine (for Chinese market and as a base engine for a plug-in hybrid)
  • M256 (6-cylinder petrol engine)
  • OM656 (6-cylinder diesel)
  • M176 (8-cylinder petrol engine with 48 volt ISG)
